Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW

Oversees administration, operation, and management of Day Camp programs. Collaborates with and supports the Achievement Centers for Children in the implementation of camp services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   1. Serves as Manager of Camp Programs for Summer Camp Programs. Oversees recruitment of campers and provides weekly report on progress toward camper goals. Tracks camper enrollment by week.

  1. Oversees recruitment of all Summer Camp positions and provides weekly report on progress toward recruitment goals to ensure desired camper ratio is adhered to. Works collaboratively with Human Resource staff.

  1. Oversees staff and camper safety, behavior and health of campers, camp activities and development of programs.

  1. Plans all Summer Camp program activities, purchases program supplies and activities while adhering to applicable program budget. Purchases Activity of Daily Living forms and Incident Report forms.

  1. Oversees the entire enrollment process for campers which includes but is not limited to: ensuring Camp Brain forms are completed, reviewing Camp Brain forms, completing camper assessment, interacting with parents and/or caregiver related to assessment results and either accepts or declines camper into program. When enrolling campers into Sensational, work with school district and obtain all necessary school documentation.

  1. Oversee camp day which includes but is not limited to: assign camper groups to camp counselors, assign staff traffic monitor, manage group schedules which includes lifeguard schedule and nursing schedule.

  1. Creates and implements training schedule of all summer staff.

  1. Communicates with all staff daily and holds staff meetings.

  1. Communicates with parents and/or caregivers around camper needs such as behaviors, missing items, forgetting lunch, swim schedule, etc…

  1. Manages time off requests and unexpected absences.

  1. Plan end of the year summer banquet.

  1. Reviews all Summer Camp forms in Camp Brain prior to the launch of the portal. Assists with launch of Camp Brain forms.

  1. Attends fairs applicable to Summer Camp.

  1. Adheres to American Camp Association (ACA). Provides support around ACA reviews and works closely with Manager of Quality Improvement Manager.

  1. Adheres to Ohio Dept. of Jobs and Family Services Day Camp regulations. Registers Summer Day camps and assist with licensing review.

  1. Adheres to Ohio Dept. of Developmental Disabilities (DODD). Provides support around DODD surveys and works closely with Manager of Quality Improvement Manager.

  1. Conducts regular evaluation(s) of all Summer Camp staff to plan areas of professional growth that are consistent with the annual evaluation and agency goals.

  1. Supports supervisor in the management of off-season recreation programs, volunteer recruitment and program promotions.

  1. Promotes and markets all camp programs to individuals, school groups, parent groups and various organizations. Assures facilities are prepared for programs. Conducts tours and handles check-in and check-out procedures.

  1. Assists in overseeing grounds related to camp programing with supervisor; and Coordinator of Camp Maintenance.

6. Attends staff meetings as required.

7. Collaborates with supervisor in developing and implementing an annual plan for professional growth.

8. Meets regularly with supervisor to go over a priority list.

ONGOING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to successfully perform each ongoing duty.

  1. Promotes a positive image by representing the Achievement Centers for Children at Camp Cheerful in a courteous and professional manner.
  2. Adheres to all Policies/Procedures in the Achievement Centers for Children Staff Handbook.
  3. Promotes a team approach within each program and throughout the agency while holding team accountable for achievement of goals.
  4. Works in family-centered partnerships with the individuals and families served by the Achievement Centers for Children
  5. Practices safe work habits and contributes to ensuring a safe and healthful work environment.
    1. Maintains the department (camp) to allow for safe, efficient and organized delivery of agency services.
    2. Maintains all equipment in safe working order, notifying supervisor of repairs/replacements as needed.
    3. Practices appropriate safety techniques related in Infection Control and Universal Precautions including hand washing, equipment and toy disinfecting, and laundry.
  6. Fosters and maintains good public relations with all community sources.
  7. Conducts self with professional dignity; understands the importance of good human relations; able to motivate others; and possesses initiative and good judgment.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Directly supervises the following year-round and seasonal staff: Camp Counselors and Sensational Day Camp Counselors (Seasonal), Summer Day Camp Coordinators, Camp Nurse, Sensation Day Camp Professional staff, and Volunteers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.

Education, Training, and/or Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  2. Courses and/or training in program administration and management.
  3. Experience in camp or educational facility administration.

Certifications and Licenses

As soon as reasonably possible after hire:

  1. Membership in American Camping Association
  2. CPR and Red Cross first-aid training.
  3. CPI training

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Previous experience with persons with disabilities.
  2. Public Relations and marketing skills.
  3. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to camp lifestyle.
  4. Organizational and writing skills.
  5. Expertise related to state and local rules for camp programs and waiver billing for camp.
  6. Expertise related to Camp Association standards.

1. Assists in lifting children and adults.

  1. Loads and unloads heavy supplies.
  2. Operates camp equipment and some tools.
  3. Drives camp Vehicles.
  4. Actively participates in camp programs and activities.
  5. Performs occasional custodial and maintenance duties.
  6. Helps feed and toilet special needs campers.

WORKING CONDITIONS described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee while performing essential duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.

1. On-call 24 hour (June through August) for camp staff needs.

  1. Requires outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  2. During Summer Camp, most of time spent outdoors.
